Roxy: The Last Dance
Our award-winning director, Phil Allocco interviews all of the key players in the history of the club, from promoters, to owners, to long-time fans, capturing the spirit and the excitement of what became the center of culture, fashion, music and gay life over 25 years in New York City. The story of The Roxy encapsulates the rise and fall of disco, the devastation of AIDS, and the emergence of the "Chelsea Boys" within the gay community. The 6,000-square foot venue hosted performances from Madonna, Cher, Bette Midler, and Beyonce. Marc Jacobs, Elton John, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Kate Pierson, Boy George and Grace Jones were among the celebrities who joined the Roxy festivities. The Roxy featured DJ's Dmitri from Deee-Lite, Sister Dimension, Tennessee, Lary Tee and Dynell. It also drew international DJ's including Junior Vasquez, Manny Lehman, Victor Calderone, Offer Nissim and Roxy's resident DJ Peter Rauhofer. |
